Darren Miller Recovers For A 4th Place Finish At Farley (IA) "Open Shootout"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

April 15, 2006, 2006

(CHADWICK, IL) -  Darren “The Thriller” Miller muscled his 32D late model to a 4th place finish at the Farley (IA) Speedway’s 50 lap “Late Model Open Shootout” Friday night, April 14th.

Problems began early in the night for Miller when a rear brake rotor/caliper exploded as he entered  turn one on the first lap of his heat race.  Continuing on without brakes  Miller advanced from his 4th place starting position into the lead and then held off all challengers during the 10 lap race.  After making major repairs, and lining up 6th in the fast dash as a result of inverted passing points, trouble struck again as the 32D made heavy contact with the turn 3 wall midway through the dash.  Up against the clock, Darren and the crew managed quick repairs and were able to put the car into it’s assigned 6th place starting position for the 50 lap feature event.  At the drop of the green it was apparent there were additional problems with the car as Miller slowly faded back past 10th.  Taking advantage of an early caution Miller brought the car back into the pits where the crew were able to make additional adjustments.  Returning to the race at the rear of the field, Miller  methodically began to make his way back to the front.  Running in 5th at a lap 45 caution, Miller was able to advance one more position during the last 5 laps and brought the 32D Ford Taurus to the checkers for a 4th place finish.

“We had our hands full last night” said Miller Saturday morning.  “First we lost a rear brake rotor in the heat race and that cost us a lot of time in repairs.  Then we got into the wall during the dash and damaged the right front suspension.  We were able to scramble and get most of the damage repaired but the car still wasn’t right.  Luckily,  I was able to get into the pits on an early caution for an adjustment.  Actually, we were so busy with repairs throughout the night, that adjustment in the pits during the race was the only adjustment we had a chance to make on the car all night.  I’m definitely happy for the 4th place finish!”
