Darren Miller Nets Second Place Finish in 35th Annual "World-100"

September 12, 2005

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CHADWICK, IL) -  Darren “The Thriller” Miller drove his 32D Pro Power Racing/ Ideal Ready Mix/ Out-Pace Racing Products Ford Taurus dirt late model to a second place finish Saturday night at the 35th  annual “World-100”.  Miller, who crossed the finish line in third behind Dale McDowell,  was awarded second place when leader Shannon Babb was found ten pounds light at the inspection scales and McDowell was awarded the win.

Miller set eighth fast time of the 216 cars present, late in first round qualifying.  Fast qualifier Jimmy Owens drew a three to set the inversion which placed Miller on the outside front row of heat race number two.  Jumping quickly into the lead on the opening lap Miller lead every lap to win the second heat race and gain the fifth starting position in the feature lineup.

At the start of the feature Miller was able to pass Clint Smith for the fourth position and then moved past Shannon Babb in the early laps.  Leader Jackie Boggs retired on lap 19 giving the lead to McDowell with Miller, Babb, Smith, and Frank following.  “The Thriller” mounted several attempts at passing McDowell throughout the middle of the race but was passed by Babb on lap 44 who then passed McDowell for the lead on lap 50.   Miller continued to follow Babb and McDowell for the remainder of the race as the track began to take rubber and passing became difficult.

“We were really good on the slick track in the beginning” stated  Miller from his shop in Chadwick, IL.  “After I got past Shannon I was running behind Dale and watching.  I was able to roll the corners really well and as we got into lap traffic I knew I would have some opportunities to make my move.  Unfortunately as the track began to traction up around the mid-point, Dale got a little better than us and Shannon got better than Dale. Then, when it took more rubber all I could do was ride it out.  The track sort of caught me off guard as I didn’t expect Eldora to do that.  If I knew then what I know now,  I might have been a little more aggressive earlier in the race.  But, overall we’re very happy with the run.  I just want to thank all of the fans who came out to watch and everyone who came to visit with us.  It was a great weekend.”

Miller and 32D team plan to compete in WOO late model action this upcoming weekend with $10,000 to win races at Granite City (IL) on Friday night and Pevely (MO) Saturday night.  They will then wrap up the weekend on Sunday with the $12,000 to win “Turbo Blue Fall Nationals 30” at the Springfield (IL) Mile, where Miller is the current track record holder.  For more information visit www.woolms.com.
